A fine map of Africa.This
map is from Philipp Cluver’s famous Introductionis in
Universam Geographicam, published in Wolfenbüttel, Germany
in 1661 by Conrad Buno. The two men principally involved
in the German editions were Conrad Buno (c.1613-1671), and his
brother, Johann Buno (1617-1697). Conrad was an engraver
and publisher at the court of Wolfenbüttel. Johann was a
theologian and pedagogue in Lüneburg, and was responsible for
editing the text of this edition of Cluver's book. The
engraver for this map is not identified though it could have
been Conrad Buno, who engraved the 1641 Cluver maps.
Besides the 1661
edition, this map appeared in later editions of 1667, 1672, and
1678. There is no text on the verso.
