This rare map is one of a set of the four continents. Arnoldo di Arnoldi (? - 1602) was a Flemish cartographer who worked in his later years with Giovanni Magini in Bologna from 1595-1600 and with Matteo Florimi in Siena from 1600-1602. There is no reference to Arnoldi on this map of Africa. The name of Arnoldi is on the similar map of Europe and it is thus assumed that Arnoldi also prepared this map.

The map generally follows Ortelius' 1570 map of Africa. The hydrographical systems and the outline for Africa are the same on both maps.  There is a lengthy text passage describing Madagascar just below the island.

The map was only issued as a separate map and is not found in any standard atlas. It is only known in one state.
