Three maps of the origins of the Nile are shown on this sheet with information based on the Portuguese, Lopez, Arab geography and Father Pedro Pais.  All maps are embellished in their interior by mountains, citadels, forests, animals. The top left map of southern Africa generally follows the Pigafetta map, which describes the Nile originating from two lakes, one above the other in contradiction to Ptolemy.

Kircher is reputed to be one of the first to describe the Nile originating in the Abyssinian Highlands as recorded by the Jesuit, Paez, and not according to Claudius Ptolemy, though there are still numerous placement errors on the map.  Kircher was a noted Jesuit theologian and author.  This map is from Kircher's Mundus Subteranneus, with a collection of interesting maps that relate to underground sources for rivers.   Across the top of the sheet is IConismas II Tom.I Fol. 53. Upper right Tomus I.
