Upon Henry Seile's death in 1662, his widow Anne issued another
edition of Peter Heylin's
Cosmographie.
She employed Robert Vaughan to engrave a set of maps of the four
continents and the world that were similar to those her husband
had used for his edition of Heylin's
Cosmographie.
For some reason, Anne did not inherit her husband's
copperplates. These passed to Henry Seile's business partner,
Philip Chetwind. This map closely follows Henry Seile's map of
1652 for a few changes in the decorative elements. Like the
1652 Henry Seile map, this map derives its geography from John
Speed's map of Africa of 1626.
Anne Seile's
first edition of Heylin's Cosmographie was published in 1665-66.
This was followed by an edition in 1669 and her last edition in
1677. The map is dated 1663 and is only known in one state.
