A large,
detailed, early 18th century map of Ireland, showing many villages
and other geographically interesting sites. Visccher's map
of Ireland served as the model for Johann Baptist Homann and
other's maps of Ireland. This is a beautiful map in
original color, well engraved and well colored.
This map was originally prepared by
Nicolas Visscher II for the Atlas Minor (a folio-size atlas).
Upon Visscher's death in 1702, his widow, Elizabeth, continued
the business until it passed (along with the copperplate that
produced this map) to Petrus Schenk and his sons. This map
was published by the son, Petrus Schenk II (1698-1775) for an
edition of Schenk's Atlas Contractus (Law, p. 51).
Law dates this map as 1710 but it seems to have been published a
few years after that date, possibly as late as 1725.

An attractive map in very fine
condition. One wormhole in left margin and several
smudge spots from original color pigment along left outer grid.
