This chart shows South Africa from the Cape of Good on the west (east side of the chart) to Delagoa Bay (present-day Lorenzo Marques) on the upper right.  By Delagoa, there is a Portuguese flag and notation in English of this being a re-supply outpost - "here are all the necessary's to be had".

This chart was from the English Pilot.  The chart does not contain a title cartouche; the title is placed to the upper center. Just below this title is an obvious erasure to the copperplate.  Here was the imprint for Thornton as "By Sam. Thornton at the Signe of the
England, Scotland, and Ireland in the Minories, London.  It is likely that when Mount and Page acquired the Thornton copperplates
upon Samuel's death in 1715, they erased this reference to Thornton but did not replace it with their own.  This is a large chart with great detail of the coast line, soundings and silhouettes of mountains.  A fine compass rose & many rhumb lines.  The Aghulus shoals are well demonstrated.

Very Fine with attractive. Full margins.
